In 2015, the first Metal-Air Batteries International Congress took place. In a relatively short period there has been such as significant progress that holding a new meeting becomes necessary. In fact, the scientific-technical electrochemical community demands it so.
The next edition of MaBIC17 will be held in WALQA Technology Park, Huesca, from 4th to 7th, 2017. It is a city placed in north-eastern Spain, within the autonomous community of Aragon and one of the smallest provincial capitals in Spain. Following the indications of the ISE, Huesca meets all the requirements as a small town with history and universitarian tradition. It has been an Iberian, Roman, Visigoth, Arab, Christian city … Known as “the door of the Pyrenees”, the geographical setting in which it is located is of total beauty. Less known is its universitarian tradition but, in reality, there is very long one. The University of Huesca is also called “Sertoriana” in memory of the school that Quinto Sertorio established in Osca in 77 B.C. On 12th March 1354, Pedro IV, the Ceremonial, granted him the privilege of creating a “General Study for Teaching Theology, Canons, Letters, Medicine and Philosophy”, This happened more than 200 years before the founding of the University of Zaragoza. Thus, there is no better place than Huesca for the celebration of our reduced but elected Metal-air setting.
The metal-air batteries differ from the conventional ones at the point that one of the reactants is oxygen from the air, abundant, free (at least for now) and, especially, very light. These features, especially popular and demanded lately, due to the gain of employing safe, low cost and abundant materials makes very promising technology for future applications.
The successful meetings hold before demonstrate that the MaBIC Congress is the most important forum for the presentation and discussion of all aspect of the Metal-air systems, from the pure electrochemical level to technological applications being a meeting point between students, researches and companies that are immersed in the world of electrochemical energy storage, and more specifically Metal-air batteries.
The concept of Smart Grids is especially relevant in the context of MaBIC17, since one of the uses of these batteries are expected in the next few years is the efficient energy storage as a one of the most relevant aspects that is being carried out by the energy agents in the R & D & I.
Another strength in the current development of Metal-air batteries is its use in electric vehicles where satisfactory tests have been evidenced, but there is still a way to go especially, in terms of recharging batteries, as a key point of present research.
You are warmly invited to the 3rd Annual Meeting on Metal-air batteries, MABIC’17, in Huesca, Spain, from 4th to 7th, 2017. The meeting will be held at the WALQA Technology Park. The Organizing Committee is pleased to welcome all participants and wishes you many fruitful scientific discussions and a very pleasant stay at beautiful region of Aragón and Huesca city.
